Formed as a subsidiary of Daimler Motor Company in 1899, Austro Daimler had become the premier Austrian automaker in the years leading up to World War I.
But its place in history was established when, in 1906, the company engaged the services of Ferdinand Porsche as its chief engineer and designer. During his years with Austro Daimler, Porsche made his mark with engineering advances and a series of race-winning motorcars.
